Sons of Thunder DFW actually started as a Co-Ed slow pitch softball team in 2022. Known then as "Bunt Force Trauma", most of the players were involved in the "Young Adults" community group at Keystone Church in Keller, Texas. After a season in Grapevine in the spring of 2022, during which the team struggled to consistently field enough female players, the team changed it's name to "Sons of Thunder" and became a Men's Softball Team playing in Grapevine's church league.
After two seasons as a single team, enough interest grew from word of mouth at Keystone Church that a second team was added, and at some point "Secondary and Tertiary Colors" became the key identifier of each team - as the Sons of Thunder split into a "Navy" and "Silver" Team. The idea was that we would remain "One Team with Two Banners". The two teams started playing in North Richland Hills in the fall of 2023.
In the Spring of 2024, a "Gold" team was added, and three new teams will be making their debut in the Summer of 2024: "Crimson", "Emerald", and "Royal". With the unprecedented growth seen in the club, the leadership team made the tough choice to relocate all six teams to Roanoke, Texas and help restart their Men's Softball Church League. Our 7th team, "Onyx" was added in the winter of 2024.
At Sons of Thunder DFW, our mission is "Empowering Men to be better disciples, evangelists, and spiritual leaders, submitting to Jesus through belief in his final work on the Cross, while engaging in fellowship and competition."
This mission means that the score of a ball game is the LEAST important element of our fellowship together. The MOST important parts of our time together are our team devotionals (player-led) before every game and our prayer time after every game. Our club's sole reason for existence is to spread the good news (gospel) of Jesus Christ and how God sent his Son to pay the price for our wrongdoings, iniquities, and sins. We do this through personal invitation to "Come and See" how our lives can thrive when we accept God's invite into his Kingdom.
Sons of Thunder will always be a ministry first and a competitive outlet second. Please review our "Team Rules" and "Player Behavior Contract" below to get an idea of how we aim to represent Christ while competing.
While not officially affiliated, around 90% of our players are members of Keystone Church in Keller, Texas. We invite you to join SoT at a Sunday Service or weeknight Bible Study and experience true spiritual family. Sons of Thunder's mission is to be a great ministry for men, but nothing can replace the local church.
The Bride of Christ (The Church) is God's "Plan A" for the world - there is no "Plan B"!
Please reach out to a coach, coordinator, or directly to the church for more information! Come experience freedom!
